🔗 Regarding Tachyons

Let’s talk physics. Specifically, relativity.

The whole concept of general relativity is that as a particle’s kinetic energy increases, its rate of movement increases. But as that rate of movement gets closer and closer to the speed of light, you have to put more and more energy in to get diminishing returns.

That much is fairly common knowledge.

It’s a little less common knowledge that there are actually two equally valid solutions for the same equations. It is also possible to have a particle that always moves faster than the speed of light, and as it gains more and more kinetic energy, it slows down, getting closer and closer to the speed of light from the other end. There’s no reason to believe particles like this physically exist, but they are a valid interpretation of relativity. They’re called tachyons.

🔗 Productivity

One interesting conjecture is that, when it comes to productivity for a particular task, there are two basic categories of people. There are the people whose baseline level of self-pressure is zero, and they need to artificially force themselves to do anything at all. And there are people whose baseline level of self-pressure is infinite, and they need to artificially reduce that pressure level to get anything done at all.

When they meet at the middle, they’re able to function with an equal productivity and effectiveness. But they have to approach it from opposite extremes, and the methods they need to use to get to that middle ground are often diametrically opposed.

Most writing on productivity seems to be oriented towards the first group.

When I’m speaking from personal experience, I can only talk about the second group, the one that has too much baseline pressure to be productive and need to amp it down to actually get anything done. If that sounds like a good group to be a part of, consider this: it makes it nearly impossible to have any meaningful form of recreation, and even outside that, most of the time you’re suffering because you’re pushing yourself so hard you can’t actually get anything done.

All the experiences I’m sharing with regards to what has worked for me are reflective of this. If you belong to the other group, these experiences may or may not help — or harm. You’ll have to find out for yourself.
